Will You Accept Jesus' Call?

Vocation as Christ's Redeeming Love

John Paul II and the priesthood

Jesus, looking upon him, loved him,"[Mk. 10:21] and said to him, "If you would be perfect, go, sell what you have, and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."[Mt. 19:21] ....we know that those words... present the interior structure of a vocation.

"And Jesus, looking upon him, loved him." This is the love of the Redeemer: a love that flows from all the human and divine depths of the Redemption. This love reflects the eternal love of the Father, who "so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."[John 3:16]

The call to the way of the evangelical counsels springs from the interior encounter with the love of Christ, which is a redeeming love. Christ calls precisely through this love of His. In the structure of a vocation, the encounter with this love becomes something specifically personal. When Christ "looked upon you and loved you," calling each one of you... that redeeming love of His was directed towards a particular person, and at the same time it took on a spousal character: it became a love of choice. This love embraces the whole person, soul and body, whether man or woman, in that person's unique and unrepeatable personal "I." The One who, given eternally to the Father, "gives" Himself in the mystery of the Redemption, has now called man in order that he in his turn should give himself entirely to the work of the Redemption through membership in a community of brothers or sisters, recognized and approved by the Church. Surely it is precisely to this call that St. Paul's words can be applied: "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit...? You are not your own; you were bought with a price."[1 Cor. 6:19-20]

Spiritual Thought

The call to the way of the evangelical counsels springs from the interior encounter with the love of Christ, which is a redeeming love. Christ calls precisely through this love of His. In the structure of a vocation, the encounter with this love becomes something specifically personal....Christ looked upon you and loved you. (Pope John Paul II)

Yes, Christ's love has reached each one of you, with that same "price" of the Redemption. As a consequence of this, you have realized that you are not your own, but belong to Christ. This new awareness was the fruit of Christ's "loving look" in the secret of your heart. You replied to that look by choosing Him who first chose each one of you, calling you with the measurelessness of His redeeming love. Since He calls "by name," His call always appeals to human freedom. Christ says: "If you wish...." And the response to this call is, therefore, a free choice. You have chosen Jesus of Nazareth, the Redeemer of the world, by choosing the way that He has shown you. (John Paul II's Redemptionis Donum, March 25, 1984)

What About You?

Are you looking for a life of full dedication to the service of God and of the Immaculate Virgin; a life of prayer and of love?

God has chosen the Immaculate as the Woman who will crush the head of Satan: the cause of so much evil in the world.

To carry out this, God's plan of salvation, the Immaculate Queen is in need of generous souls willing to become docile instruments in her Immaculate hands.

If you are chosen to answer Mary's call and thus cooperate fully in the conquest of all souls for God, apply to the Franciscans of the Immaculate, who dedicate themselves totally to the service of the Immaculate Virgin according to the program of perfect consecration proposed by St. Maximilian Mary Kolbe. (Fr. Stefano Manelli's "Come & Follow Me", p. 141)

PHOTO ESSAY ON POSTULANCY

The Marian Vocation :: All vocations considered as grace, comes from Jesus through the hands of the Immaculate. It is the moment when young men start to have a deeper appreciation of far more transcendent values than what they are accustom to have--eternal life. The Postulancy :: A period of formation when new candidates get introduced to the experience of religious life: community life, of prayer, of penance and the joys of serving God through the Immaculata. Liturgical Life :: Active participation in the liturgy, that is the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the liturgy of the hours and community prayers are the primary sources of strength for those who respond to God's call for the first time. Listening to God's Word :: Reflection on the Sacred Scriptures during liturgy is a nourishment to the souls of beginners. It makes Jesus present again addressing each candidate: Come Follow Me. Life as Pilgrimage :: It is the awareness of this earthly life as a pilgrimage, that is, temporary, but has final destiny, that makes each of the postulant conscious of the necessity of the spirit of detachment. Witness to the Gospel :: Postulants are introduced to apostolate of being tangible witness of the Gospel truth especially the dignity of human life and holiness of the Sacrament of marriage. Interior Union with God :: The primacy of developing interior union with Jesus through mental prayer is at the center of the postulancy formation. It is through here that virtues are rediscovered and vices purged-- the practical consequences of one who is in love-- of God. Spiritual Reading :: Role models are essential to beginners. They tend to imitate and assimilate values from the examples of others. Hence, the spiritual reading of the lives of the saints. The Joy of Fraternal Life :: The contagious experience of joy by living with others with similar goal, namely, the desire to become saints, are but a glimpse of what paradise is like; except there is no more cereals in heaven.. Franciscan meal :: The experience of frugality in the refectory (dining room) shows that what makes mealtime enjoyable is not so much of the quality of food but the company of brothers who are always aware that everything is a gift of God's divine providence. Dishes and Pots :: The postulants are trained to work by their own hands, an experience of what Nazareth would be like where Jesus helped our Lady washed dishes. Mary and Vocation :: The life of the postulants is summarized by the mysteries of the Holy Rosary: they are manifold beads connected with each other to form the mysteries of the life of Jesus and Mary. Nothing in their life does not make sense, for it is heaven come alive on earth.
